Your Right to Data Deletion
At Makazi, we respect your right to control your personal data in accordance with the Tanzania Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2022. You may request complete deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. When you request deletion, we permanently remove your information from our systems — this action is irreversible.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed:
- Profile information — name, email, phone number, avatar photo, role, and preferences
- Identity verification documents — NIDA/passport/license scans and selfie photos (removed from encrypted storage)
- Property listings — all listing data, descriptions, pricing, and associated photographs (removed from storage)
- Messages & conversations — all sent and received messages, and full conversation history
- Saved favorites — all bookmarked listings
- Payment records — subscription history, boost transactions, and payment ledger entries
- Notifications — all notification history
- Support tickets — concierge conversations and support history
- Authentication credentials — email/password, OAuth tokens, and session data
Data Retention Exceptions
In compliance with Tanzanian law, certain data may be retained after account deletion:
- Transaction records — anonymized payment records may be retained for up to 7 years to comply with Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) tax and financial reporting requirements.
- Fraud prevention data — if your account was flagged for fraudulent activity, limited identification data may be retained for up to 2 years to prevent re-registration.
- Legal holds — data subject to active legal proceedings or regulatory investigations will be preserved until the matter is resolved.
- Aggregated analytics — anonymized, non-identifiable usage statistics (e.g., total users, page views) are retained indefinitely and cannot be traced back to any individual.
