Haki za Wapangaji
Tanzanian law protects tenants. Here's what you need to know.
Sheria ya Udhibiti wa Kodi (Cap 340)
Landlords cannot increase rent without giving at least 3 months' written notice. Any increase must be reasonable and justified.
Malipo ya Kodi ya Awali
In Tanzania, tenants typically pay rent upfront for 3, 6, or 12 months. There is no security deposit system. The full lease period is paid in advance.
Ulinzi Dhidi ya Kufukuzwa
A landlord must give you written notice before eviction. They cannot lock you out, remove your belongings, or cut off utilities.
Matengenezo
Structural repairs (roof, plumbing, electrical) are the landlord's responsibility. Report issues in writing to create a record.
Risiti ya Malipo
You have the right to a written receipt for every payment — rent, deposit, or otherwise. Always request one.
Faragha
Your landlord must give at least 24 hours' notice before visiting. Unannounced visits violate your right to peaceful enjoyment.
Orodha ya Ukaguzi
Before you sign — make sure you've covered these essentials.
